Second Home on Second is a charming spot that's worth the waiting list. An inspiring fusion of gallery meets pension, we think the artwork—created by the owner's father, artist Victor Delfin—is reason enough to stay here. But then there's also the view of a romantic neighboring garden and a spectacular skylight.
Housed on the third and fourth floors of a 19th-century townhouse, Second Home is in a hip, convenient section of the East Village and steps away from Union Square.
Rooms are fairly modest: clean, comfortable, and very homey. They come subtly decorated in one of four themes: Peruvian, Tribal, Caribbean, or Modern. Those with shared bathrooms clearly offer a better bargain, and they only share with one or two other rooms. Suites are much more spacious with their own sitting areas and, of course, private toilets.
There's a fully equipped guest kitchen. And the hotel is affiliated with a yoga and gyrotonic center.
