The St. Marks Hotel has undergone significant renovations to accommodate the changing East Village neighborhood. While the 70 rooms at this veteran hotel are not ultra chic or ultra spacious, they are clean and comfortable. All have private bathrooms, cable TV, and a DVD player. You can't complain for the price you're paying!
Just keep in mind that while the St. Marks Hotel has spruced up its level of sophistication, the neighborhood remains a bustling bastion for college students, pierced punks, and the street vendors that cater to them. The Alehouse downstairs and busy Third Avenue just outside the door also add to the noise level. With no soundproofed windows, this may not be the spot for light sleepers.
Note: St. Marks does not have an elevator.
