The 1291 Bed & Breakfast provides basic hostel accommodations and affords visitors convenient proximity to city sights in a quiet location where real New Yorkers eat, drink and live.
This property offers shared two- and three- bed dorms in addition to private rooms and a few apartments. Rooms are narrow with colorful comforters and platform beds that take up most of the space. Dorms are quite basic, but private rooms offer a few more amenities, including in-room sinks, radios and mini-fridges. Some rooms also have television.
The hostel's communal areas reinforce a young vibe. The bright green TV lounge is decorated with Rothko-style paintings and mismatched couches like the ones from a first apartment. A rooftop terrace is open during the summer months. Guests have free use of the communal kitchen and laundry facilities ($2 per load).
Breakfast is available 24 hours a day. And if you don't want to share a bed with a friend, they'll roll in a bunk. There is an Internet station in the lounge for a nominal fee.

About the 1291 Bed & Breakfast neighborhood
Midtown West is packed with tourists sights... and tourist-class hotels. Working west from Fifth Avenue to Hell's Kitchen and up to Central Park, the neighborhood is home to the Theater District, Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, Carnegie Hall, and the Museum of Modern Art. Not to mention Times Square—an entity within itself. Though most New Yorkers steer clear of this congested (and now pedestrianized) area, the neon lights, larger-than-life billboards, and wise-talking street vendors keep the visitors coming. And coming. And coming.
