Located on the quiet residential West End Avenue one block from bustling Broadway, this hostel offers fantastic rates and spacious, if sparse, private rooms and dorm lodging.
The homey lobby reflects the clientele's international character: in addition to the fireplace, exposed brick, and armchairs, clocks displaying times around the globe line the wall behind the check-in desk.
Quads are fitted with two queen-sized beds and a bunk—all new. Corner rooms, which have two windows, are brighter, though not every window in the hostel provides a view. Some rooms have refurbished fireplaces. Doubles are similarly roomy, identically outfitted with televisions and new beds.
The spotless bathrooms, which have sizeable showers for a hostel, are all shared. Most rooms have sinks for private grooming, and air-conditioning is available though not hotel-wide. Many private rooms come with a mini-fridge and television.
Bottom-line: request ahead to snatch a room with more amentities.
