The 33-room Hostel Baccarat, located very close to Nice's main train station, runs a tight ship. From boat décor and yacht attire, it's all bells and whistles, and mostly backpackers. Read: If after-hours noise is your pet peeve, then find another spot.
Hostel-style dorms that sleep eight to 10 guests make up most of the offerings here. Twin rooms are on the small side but comfy, with striped curtains and basic comforters. En suite bathrooms are fairly modern and a few rooms have terraces. All rooms are air-conditioned.
The Baccarat clientele is typically young, and there is a constant pulse of activity in the outdoor and indoor common areas, and around the downstairs billiards table. Those who don't mind the din will be able to take advantage of the convenient locale and cheap prices. And, the Baccarat offers a fully equipped kitchen for guest use and free Wi-Fi, in addition to a free Internet station.
Note: Check-in here ends nightly at 7:45 p.m.. Notify the property if you intend to arrive later.

About the Hostel Baccarat neighborhood
The area to the south of the train station and in Nice's center city is full of budget hotels. These vary greatly in terms of character and amenities but generally provide basic rooms at very reasonable prices. Keep in mind that the area immediately surrounding the train station, like in many other cities, has a sleazy edge. The beach is about a 20-minute walk from the train station.
