A location near the beach and attractive rooms make the three-star Hotel La Petite Sirene a sure bet for Nice.
The 15 rooms are cozy yet simple, and are equipped with satellite television, air conditioning and minibar. Rooms on the second floor have lower ceilings (we recommend higher floors). If you win big at one of the nearby seaside casinos, you could upgrade to the hotel's extravagant penthouse, which is equipped with a kitchen, big screen TV and large private terrace. Private bathrooms could use a bit of sprucing but are functional.
Run by a friendly Danish family, the hotel is named after fellow countryman Hans Christian Andersen's "The Little Mermaid." It offers a wheelchair accessible room and also operates an Argentinean steakhouse with a full menu.
Note: Cheapos beware: Prices go up everywhere in Nice during the Monoco Grand Prix, but they skyrocket at La Petite Sirene.

About the La Petite Sirène neighborhood
The area to the south of the train station and in Nice's center city is full of budget hotels. These vary greatly in terms of character and amenities but generally provide basic rooms at very reasonable prices. Keep in mind that the area immediately surrounding the train station, like in many other cities, has a sleazy edge. The beach is about a 20-minute walk from the train station.
