The Hotel Excelsior is a three-star beauty located near Nice’s train station and a central tram stop. It’s a good pick for a romantic indulgence, and when its rates are low, they’re very, very low.
The Excelsior’s 40 rooms (and two apartments) are decorated in fresh shades of pink, yellow, orange or white. They are due for a light refresh, but all are comfortable and fully air-conditioned. Some rooms sport balconies (ask ahead).
Crystal chandeliers in the Excelsior's lobby and breakfast room evoke "La Belle Époque." Outside, an ivy-covered façle;ade, wrought iron balconies and a private garden provide old-world European style.
A breakfast buffet (for an additional charge) is served in the Excelsior's charming breakfast room, which opens onto the leafy terrace. The hotel is also near the beach and the Promenade des Anglais.
Wi-Fi is available for an additional fee.

About the Excelsior neighborhood
The area to the south of the train station and in Nice's center city is full of budget hotels. These vary greatly in terms of character and amenities but generally provide basic rooms at very reasonable prices. Keep in mind that the area immediately surrounding the train station, like in many other cities, has a sleazy edge. The beach is about a 20-minute walk from the train station.
