Neighborhood Description

The left bank area just south of the Boulevard Montparnasse is located in the 14th and 15th arrondissements. This leafy part of town, the former artistic and intellectual hub of Paris a century ago, remains central, well-kept, and active. You can still visit the cafes and restaurants frequented by the "Lost Generation" writers. Today the neighborhood is dominated by the Tour Montparnasse, a massive 59-story skyscraper that many Parisians are still mad about. (Note: It also provides one of the most beautiful views in Paris!) The nearby cemetery, Cimetière du Montparnasse, is one of the largest in Paris and houses many notable inhabitants including Sartre, Baudelaire, and Man Ray.
