Located along the park leading up to the Eiffel Tower, this two-star hotel flaunts charm and a sense of history.
Pros: Charming, hand-picked 1930’s decor. Friendly, knowledgeable owner.
Cons: Older rooms are slightly dated, while newer rooms go for premium rates.
The Hôtel Eber Mars flaunts charm, location and Parisian history like no other. We completely fell for the 1930s-inspired hotel, which is named after the Champs de Mars Park (at the foot of the Eiffel Tower) and Monsieur Eber, the hotel’s charismatic and English-speaking proprietor.
The Eber Mars offers and wide range of rooms, from its cheapest “Business” and “Classique” rooms with showers and no air conditioning, to more expensive “Eiffel” (upper floors with views of the Tower) and larger “Parisienne” rooms.
Monsieur Eber has dressed all rooms with antique pieces from Parisian flea markets and personally attended to all the details—he’s handpicked the wallpaper, woven towels, retro spigots and original Eiffel Tower prints and maps. All rooms are equipped with a flat-screen TV and telephone. The most expensive rooms have free Wi-Fi, while you’ll have to pay a small daily charge for Wi-Fi in “Business” and “Classique” rooms.
Note that the Eber has a strict “no picnicking in the rooms” rule, but guests are permitted to snack in the swanky hotel lounge. Monsieur Eber is quite willing to steer guests to great restaurants, cafés and bars. (He’s also an expert on the Eiffel Tower, so ask him questions!)
Much of the glass work displayed in the lounge was created by sculptor Josette Rispal, daughter of the original owner (and collector) Antonin Rispal. His Art Nouveau collection was recently donated to the Musée d’Orsay.
Breakfast is offered for €10. There’s an elevator, but it’s laughably small and probably best for bags or one passenger.
Low season: Note that the rooms are 20 percent cheaper from November through March, and July through August.

About the Hotel Eber Mars neighborhood
Many of the surrounding streets offer up storybook views of the Eiffel Tower, still the tallest building in Paris. Another striking monument is the 18-carat-gold dome of the Invalides, that glimmers along the Seine's left bank, just east of the Eiffel Tower. Notable museums include the Musée d'Orsay, the Musée Rodin and the Musée du Quai Branly.
