The Hôtel Eber Mars is named after its owner, Mr. Eber, and the Champs de Mars park, which is at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. Indeed, the hotel, situated on an elegant, tree-lined avenue, is just a block away from the aforementioned park.
This comfortable, contemporary hotel has a genuinely friendly, multilingual staff. There's a comfortable lounge and stylish breakfast room off the main lobby where guests are invited to enjoy any food they bring back from the market. (They're quite adamant about not eating in the rooms.)
The smart style of the public areas, like many hotels, doesn't quite reach the rooms. Althoughs spacious and well-appointed, they're more old-fashioned in atmosphere. Bathrooms are roomy and spotless but most are dated with '70s pastel tiling.
Photos on the hotel's Web site indicate a few rooms with more contemporary décor, but we weren't shown these on our tour. Ask for one of the rooms on the upper floors with dramatic close-up views of the Eiffel Tower—it even sparkles for the first 10 minutes of every hour after dark!
