Located on the market-lined rue Cler above a café, fromagerie and a wine cave, the two-star Grand Hôtel Lévêque provides a comfy base near the Eiffel Tower at reasonable rates.
Pros: Charming market street location near the Eiffel Tower. Very friendly. Mod design in some rooms. AC.
Cons: Street-facing rooms could be noisy. Cheaper, unrenovated rooms a bit drab.
Visiting the Grand Hotel Lévêque is always fun for us—the location, snug alongside a cafe and a wine shop, is charming, and the management is super friendly. But the rooms, too, are fun, and, little by little, getting a “budget boutique” makeover.
The hotel, you see, has been undergoing a floor-by-floor facelift for several years, converting its 50 rooms into newer, slicker ones. As of 2014, 30 have been transformed with trendy color schemes, new furnishings, and slick bathrooms with (surprising) eggshell wall coverings. The 20 less expensive “standard” rooms are old-fashioned and seem sad by comparison, and just seem to be hanging out waiting for their chance to shine. But they are cheaper...
Renovated or not, all rooms are equipped with air conditioning, a television, phone and free Wi-Fi. Toiletries are also included in all rooms.
Rooms facing the street boast seasonal flower boxes and panoramic views of the Rue Cler and its bustling mini-markets. They’re great for people-watching, but remember that where there’s activity, there’s usually noise (pack earplugs if you’re a light sleeper).
The rue Cler is a cute market street, popular with tourists, located a 5-10 minute walk east of the Eiffel Tower. The location will be ideal for guests who want to fling open their windows in the morning to see morning shopkeepers hustling and shoppers bustling. It’s also lined with hotels, cafés and restaurants. This area will be mostly quiet at night, as most sights (save a very famous tower) are located in more central neighborhoods.
Breakfast is served downstairs in the swanky lounge for a not-so-Cheapo €9.

About the Grand Hotel Leveque neighborhood
Many of the surrounding streets offer up storybook views of the Eiffel Tower, still the tallest building in Paris. Another striking monument is the 18-carat-gold dome of the Invalides, that glimmers along the Seine's left bank, just east of the Eiffel Tower. Notable museums include the Musée d'Orsay, the Musée Rodin and the Musée du Quai Branly.
