The Hôtel Ascot Opéra impressed us right away: it has a great corner location (a 10-minute walk to the Louvre and a couple of blocks from the OpĂ©ra), a stylish bar and dining area, comfy lounge, and even private parking (unheard of in Paris).
However, it was the details in the rooms that really blew us away. Tasteful black-and-white photography in the tradition of Doisneau grace the walls, and orchids pose on many of the bedside tables.
Each room has character with charming details worth paying extra for. Some have exposed wood-beam ceilings and large, antique light fixtures while others feature carved headboards with matching mirrors and night tables.
All in all, rooms manage to exude French countryside charms with feminine furniture and floral patterns. That said, the Ascot is a modern hotel. Rooms have cool, big, flat-screen TVs.
The creative decor extends to the bathrooms, most of which have bathtubs. All are done up in decorative tiles. Some bathrooms have a dizzying '70s style, while others have a Middle Eastern or classic floral look.
The hotel is a bit on the pricier side, but the location, amenities, and originality make the Ascot well worth the extra price.
