The friendly Hotel Audran is a solid deal, offering renovated two-star rooms along the café-lined rue Abbesses, one of Montmartre's most charming stretches.
Pros: Low rates. Nicely renovated rooms with private bath. Free Wi-Fi.
Cons: Charming neighborhood could feel far-flung.
The Hotel Audran was completely renovated a few years back, giving rooms and public spaces some well-deserved attention. The hotel’s 40 rooms (7 singles, 9 twins and 24 doubles) were made over with pretty blue walls, restored crown moldings and laminate floors. Furniture is pretty basic (simple bed, desk and wicker chair), and all rooms are equipped with a flat-screen TV, telephone and safe.
The 28 rooms facing the street (on either the rue Abbesses or rue Audran sides) will get some traffic noise, although the hotel did install double-paned windows. Still, light sleepers should request a room on a higher floor (there’s an elevator, and views from the top are gorgeous) or ask for one of the 12 rooms on the courtyard.
All rooms have a nicely tiled private bath, each of which has a shower (no bathtubs) and a hair dryer.
The Hotel Audran’s location, just two blocks from the picturesque Place des Abbesses (complete with carousel and Metro), puts guests near innumerable restaurants, cafés and small shops, and a short stroll up to Sacré Coeur. This location makes sense for romantic types, although guests simply searching for a convenient spot (where they can quickly come back to your hotel throughout the day), should consider picking something closer to the center of town.
The hotel serves breakfast for a Cheapo-friendly €6, although there are countless bakeries and cafés offering better deals nearby. Wi-Fi is available for free throughout the property. The entire hotel, including all rooms, are non-smoking.
Metro: The hotel is located two blocks from the Abbesses Metro station (line 12).

About the Hotel Audran neighborhood
The wedding cake of a church that is the hilltop Sacré-Coeur basilica is this area’s most recognizable monument, and those who climb up will be rewarded with an incomparable view overlooking Paris. Montmartre's winding streets have inspired generations of starving artists and bohemians. That charm now co-exists with a theme park of the original village, centered on the Place du Tertre, complete with touristy restaurants and bars, and "artists" offering to sketch your portrait or sell you their lurid oil paintings.
