My how things change! Since we last stopped by the Hotel de la Sorbonne (and called it a two-star cozy hotel), it has completely reinvented itself as a three-star "design hotel" and gotten fancy on us. During our most recent visit, we were startled to see the transformation: Swanky style, modern furniture, dramatic lighting... and that was just the lobby!

We can't recommend the hotel as a budget option for Paris, obviously, as rates are regularly in the €200 range. We'll leave the listing in place for now, however, as the rates sometimes dip down, approaching affordability.

Each of the hotel's 39 rooms boasts a Mac computer, and the entire place provides free Wi-Fi. The décor is modern, with bold tones and sleek furniture. All rooms are equipped with a television, telephone and hair dryer, along with private facilities. Those who prefer a view of the Sorbonne should request when reserving.

If you are looking to cuddle up next to the Sorbonne and want to do it “a la hip,” you should certainly consider the Hotel de la Sorbonne. Located directly across the street from the historic school on the tiny rue Victor Cousin, the hotel is about 30 seconds from the Place de la Sorbonne. (The hotel is located next door to the much more affordable Hotel Cluny Sorbonne.)
