Planted at the quiet end of the rue de l'Exposition, the Hôtel de la Tour Eiffel is a two-star charmer with 24 reasonably priced rooms near the Eiffel Tower, the Champ de Mars and the bustling market-lined Rue Cler.

The décor in each unique room is a cool meshing of traditional and whimsical. Framed mirrors and photographs accessorize the walls, while handmade, candy-colored chandeliers add Venetian charm. Though they are equipped with a telephone and flat-screen TV, the rooms in the historic building could use some updating. Happily, renovations are in the works (stay tuned).

Bathrooms are teeny-tiny but spic-n-span, with both showers and bathtubs.

Downstairs, the hotel lobby is smartly dressed, with fresh-cut flowers, black leather club chairs, and shelves of thick red books.

Free Wi-Fi has been installed, but the connection is slow and spotty at times. There is also a free computer terminal in the lobby. Note that the hotel is not air conditioned, although there are fans available upon request.
