Hotel de l'Espérance

The two-star Hotel de l’Espérance offers renovated rooms with some splashy, regal touches in the bottom of the fifth arrondissement. It’s not quite “Cheapo,” but it could be worth the splurge.

Rooms at the Hotel de l’Espérance are quite comfortable, and all are equipped with air conditioning, a flat-screen TV and telephone. Most notable, from a décor perspective, are the canopies perched over the beds. These, together with matching drapes, bring a touch of “princess” into each room.

The renovated bathrooms are nicely tiled and equipped with a hair dryer and either a shower or tub (ask ahead).

With room rates pegged at €85-95 for a double room year-round, the Hotel de l’Espérance is a fair deal, while not quite qualifying as one of our “Editor’s Picks.” However, the hotel is a sensible option for budget travelers looking to treat themselves like royalty.

A continental breakfast is served for €9, but there are plenty of café options around the nearby Metro Gobelins.

Wi-Fi is free and accessible throughout the hotel.

Location

The Hotel de l’Esperance has a rather quiet location on a small street just north of the Boulevard de Port-Royal. This area isn’t particularly interesting for most tourists, but it is a quick Metro ride to many central sights. There are plenty of cafés and restaurants on the nearby Boulevard de Port-Royal and Avenue des Gobelins.
