“Romancing the stone” on the tranquil rue du Gros Caillou (which means, literally, “big stone”) the two-star Hotel Eiffel Rive Gauche offers standard rooms at reasonable rates, but the main draw here is location. And, true to its name, the hotel has four (highly coveted!) rooms with views of the Eiffel Tower (request ahead).

The Eiffel Rive Gauche’s 29 small rooms are very basic but radiate with natural light. Dressed in burgundy and golden hues, they’re outfitted with wooden headboards, desks and perky reading lights, along with a fan, flat-screen television and telephone. Well-worn and comfy linens and wine-checked gingham bedspreads add homey warmth. The bathrooms are decked out with marble sinks and new hairdryers. Bathtubs are available.

The courtyard, painted in a sunny yellow wash and furnished with bistro tables, reminded us of easy, breezy days in the South of France.

A buffet breakfast is available for €12. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
