This convent-turned-hotel near the Eiffel Tower might do the trick, if the price is right.
Pros: Location near Eiffel Tower. Warmly decorated.
Cons: Small, basic rooms. Rates unpredictable.
Situated on the tranquil rue du Gros Caillou, the three-star Hotel Eiffel Rive Gauche offers simple and standard rooms at rates that can be among the cheapest in the neighborhood. Indeed, the big draw here is location. And, true to its name, the hotel has four (highly coveted!) rooms with views of the Eiffel Tower (request these well in advance).
As for the actual rooms, well… let’s just say that the hotel used to be a convent. (We’re serious.) Rooms are small, but they’re clean and will do the trick for unfussy travelers. Dressed in burgundy and golden hues, they offer desks, a fan, flat-screen television and telephone. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel.
The renovated bathrooms have marble sinks and hair dryers. Most are equipped with showers, although bathtubs are available.
Half of the rooms open to the hotel’s courtyard, which is painted in a sunny yellow wash and furnished with bistro tables. Everything else is pretty cute and tight, from the small winding stairwell to the (typically) tiny elevator.
Although the rates can be among the neighborhood’s cheapest, the hotel does strike us as pretty expensive for what it offers, especially when it charges more than €150 for a double. However, we did see some some lower rates (and last-minute offers) that seemed like a much better deal.
A buffet breakfast is available for €13, although the neighborhood has no shortage of small cafes and patisseries where you can find a cheaper meal.

About the Hôtel Eiffel Rive Gauche neighborhood
Many of the surrounding streets offer up storybook views of the Eiffel Tower, still the tallest building in Paris. Another striking monument is the 18-carat-gold dome of the Invalides, that glimmers along the Seine's left bank, just east of the Eiffel Tower. Notable museums include the Musée d'Orsay, the Musée Rodin and the Musée du Quai Branly.
