The Peletier Haussmann Hotel provides 26 comfortable, if somewhat tired, two-star rooms with a nice range of amenities in the center of the chic Opera shopping district.
Pros: Cozy hotel in a convenient location. Friendly staff. Cheap breakfast.
Cons: Laughably small elevator. Rooms a bit tired and small.
First of all (and perhaps most importantly), the Peletier Haussmann is located a five-minute walk to the Opera, making it ideal for those planning to hit the big department stores, frequent the opera, or catch a bus to or from the airport.
Downstairs, the lobby's exposed stone walls, wood-beamed ceiling and track-lighting creates a cozy ambiance. Factor in the friendly staff, and the hotel makes an excellent first impression.
Upstairs, rooms are of a size typical for Paris hotels (that is to say, not terribly spacious, but not the smallest we’ve seen either). Décor is pleasant and unsurprising, but could benefit from a fresh makeover. Half the rooms face the front (and the busy rue le Peletier), while the other half face a small, dark courtyard. (We’d ask for the street facing rooms.)
Rooms are equipped with a minibar, satellite TV and free Wi-Fi access. All rooms facing the street are equipped with bathtubs and double-glazed windows for soundproofing. Bathrooms are nicely tiled and have a hair dryer.
Breakfast is offered for a reasonable €6.
About that elevator
The hotel does have an elevator, but it’s comically small and can comfortably hold one (somewhat slender) passenger and maybe a bag. Seriously, guests regularly take photos of it to amuse the folks back home.

About the Peletier Haussmann Opera neighborhood
The 9th arrondissement has something of a split personality: On the one hand, it’s home to always bustling mega department stores like Galeries Lafayette and Printemps (and one of the city’s two Apple store locations) as well as the ballet and opera lovers landmark that is Opéra Garnier. But it also shares a 9th arrondissement zip code with Pigalle, home to the Moulin Rouge, birthplace of the can-can.
