The Hotel Splendid is an aptly named splurge. What else can you say about a place that dishes up 48 three-star rooms that are fresh, clean, and offer larger-than-life views of the Eiffel Tower?
Daniel, the Splendid's cheerful, English-speaking manager, whisked us through the hotel, showing us room after pleasant room. The décor and furnishings are pretty standard, yet feature all of the necessary three-star amenities, including hairdryers, irons, and double-glazed windows.
As the Splendid is situated on a triangular angle at the southeast corner of the Champ de Mars (the park surrounding the Eiffel Tower), all rooms face the street. If you’re going to stay here you might as well splurge on one of the deluxe doubles or stylishly-decorated Junior Suites along the corner, which face the tower directly for picture-postcard views.
Rooms along the side still offer views, but you have to stick your head out the window and look to your right or left to see them. The fifth floor provides balconies large enough to enjoy breakfast on while taking in the view. Single rooms have showers only, while the doubles and triples have combination bathtub-showers.
