Plug-Inn Hostel

Located in the Abbesses-Montmartre neighborhood, the Plug-Inn Boutique Hostel (formerly the Hotel Utrillo) has always had a certain lively flair about it—but now it’s got the look, too. The funky hostel attracts backpackers du monde. Succinctly said, the place has got it “plugging on.”

Rooms

In each of its 30 private and dorm-style rooms, you’ll find simple furnishings along with French lace curtains and well-worn blankets in effervescent shades of raspberry, orange and yellow. Expect modest and you will not be disappointed: The rooms do not have a TV, telephone or air conditioning, although there’s a new flat-screen television in the lobby. Fans are available upon request.

The bathrooms and showers are now outfitted with brand-spanking-new showers, sinks, toilets and mirrors with flattering lighting.

Modern cylinder and party-hat-shaped light fixtures in primary colors hang throughout the hotel. Stairwell lighting is movement-activated, so there’s no stumbling around in the dark for a light switch after a merry night on the cobblestoned town.

During a recent visit, we found the Plug-Inn’s free Internet station, groovy television lounge and lobby (lined in faux-cowhide—giddy up!) bubbling over with animated chitchat in at least four different languages.

The hostel is located close to three Métro lines, along with an eclectic mix of shops, bars, cafés, and ethnic restaurants. Tip: Just around the corner is Le Mono, a fun and friendly Togolese restaurant. Try the fried plantains!

Breakfast is included in the room rate. Wi-Fi is free throughout.
