Located a quick walk from the Grand Boulevards Metro stop near central Paris’ main sights, the Vivienne is an affordable and friendly two-star option.
Pros: Convenient location. Velib’ stop outside. Comfortable rooms.
Cons: Some noise issues in rooms overlooking rue Vivienne. Small rooms.
The Hotel Vivienne is an easy to like two-star option, with a convenient location near the Opera and Grands Boulevards, and comfortable renovated rooms that usually go for about €90-125 a night.
Almost all of the 44 guest rooms have been renovated and outfitted in a modern black and white color scheme, with cream walls and dark furniture. (A few older rooms have a more classic look, with floral curtains, pink walls and artwork.)
All are equipped with a flat-screen TV, telephone and free Wi-Fi. Tiled bathrooms have tubs, hair dryers and toiletries.
Rooms with balconies have lovely blooming flowers but don't offer much privacy (or quiet), as they look out onto the rather busy rue Vivienne. Top floor rooms sport their own private balcony (see photo), which feel very VIP.
Note that the cheapest singles and doubles at the Vivienne are equipped only with a shower and share toilets in the hallway. Rates for these start at €88. All other rooms are equipped with their own shower or bathtub and toilet.
Although popular with business travelers, the Vivienne is a family-friendly hotel, and offers family rooms with a double bed and sofa bed. Children under the age of 10 sleep for free in “existing bedding.” (In other words, they can sleep with you.) Children under two years old sleep for free in cribs, while there is a charge for rollaway beds for older children.
Also, pet lovers rejoice! The Vivienne is pet-friendly and won’t charge for Fido. In fact, Romero, the Vivienne’s house cat, was fast asleep in the lobby during our last inspection. He couldn’t be bothered to show us around.
We were happy to find a Velib’ bike station just outside the hotel’s front door, allowing for very convenient access to the city’s bike-sharing program.
A continental breakfast is served for (a rather steep) €11.

About the Hotel Vivienne neighborhood
Home to the Bourse (the French stock exchange) as well as France's national library (which has a more recent outpost in the 13th arrondissement), this central neighborhood is generally thought of as a business district.
