Hôtel Crayon by Elegancia

The three-star Hotel Crayon offers 26 rooms, each decorated with their own particular primary color scheme. The location in the heart of Paris makes it an ideal, if not-so-cheapo spot for those who want comfortable rooms, close proximity to attractions, and a playful, zesty décor.

Rooms

The Hotel Crayon’s Amazing Technicolor Dream-rooms are newly renovated, and feature richly painted walls with framed prints and retro furnishings found in Paris’ famous flea markets. Note the red, yellow, and purple-themed rooms, further decorated with seemingly-scribbled drawings on the walls above beds, in corners and on doors.

The delightfully mismatched blue and green room with retro silver phones, antique frames, and flat-screen TV is a fun mix of past and present. The higher-end rooms start mixing in patterns: paisley, printed wallpaper, silver panels. Hand-drawn illustrations done in crayon (naturally) may be a bit too loud or kitschy for some.

Each room at the Crayon is equipped with air conditioning, TV, telephone and safe. They're also soundproofed, and all are non-smoking. Wi-Fi is free throughout the hotel and all rooms.

Interesting plus: Guests can also choose their own personalized aromatherapy for their room, meaning the room will always smell exactly how you’d like.

Bathrooms

Bathrooms, which feature either shower or bathtub, are similarly stylish and colorful, with fanciful mirrors, glass shower doors, bright-and-happy tiling, and a collection of globally-inspired toiletries. While compact, the rain shower will help you feel clean and refreshed after each daily adventure. All bathrooms are equipped with a hair dryer.

Location

The Hotel Crayon is located just a short walk from the Centre Pompidou, the Opera, Forum des Halles and countless other attractions. Oh right, and the most visited museum in the world – the Louvre – is just around the corner!

Great dining options can be found on and around the nearby rue Montorgueil. We’d recommend skipping the hotel’s €12 breakfast and explore the local eateries around the old Les Halles market.

The Crayon scores high with guests for its quirky, fun and modern décor. Guests find the rooms to be very clean, and the service very friendly and accommodating. Many guests appreciate the free Wi-Fi. The convenient and central location, a very short walk to Les Halles and the Louvre, is mentioned by almost every guest.

We haven't read many complaints about the hotel, outside of some mentions of the "compact" and small size of the rooms, which is quite typical for hotels in Paris. One guest noted that he would ask for a room in the front next time, as his room on the back side felt small and, without a window, felt a bit claustrophobic.

Transportation

Metro: The hotel is easily accessible by several metro stations, including Les Halles, Louvre-Rivoli, or Palais Royal-Musée du Louvre.

Airport: From either airport, the RER B train will stop at Châtelet-Les Halles for an easy walk to the hotel.
