Located just east of the Île de la Cité, the smaller and more residential Île Saint-Louis is a favorite with tourists, who flock to the island's boutique-lined streets and pose for photos, standing before grand vistas of the Seine.

Long before Parisians moved to the island, cattle roamed freely. The island was developed in the 17th century under the reigns of Henry IV and Louis XIII, although it’s named for Louis IX. The Pont Saint-Louis connects the island to the Île de la Cité, home to Notre Dame.

The Île Saint-Louis makes a wonderful spot to enjoy a coffee, pick up a Glaces Berthillon, visit the Église Saint-Louis-en-Île, or just stroll along the banks, gazing out at Paris.
