Getting Into Pisa

Getting Into Pisa - Pisa, Italy

Most visitors arrive in Pisa via another Italian or European city. Pisa's Galileo Galilei airport, to the south of the city, is serviced mostly by low-cost carriers like Ryanair, while larger airlines fly into nearby Florence or Rome. We'll also break down arrivals by train or bus.

By bus

The LAM Rossa (Red LAM) city bus line provides service from Galileo Galilei airport to the Pisa Centrale train station, Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, and other stops within the city center. Departures are every 10 to 20 minutes between 6 AM and 8:25 PM Monday through Saturday and 7:25 AM and 8:15 PM on Sundays and holidays. A one-way ticket costs €1. The bus stop is outside the arrivals hall.

By train

A shuttle train runs between Pisa airport and the main train station approximately every half hour between 7:35 AM and 10:20 PM, with additional trains at 1:03 AM and 6:41 AM. The train journey lasts 5 minutes. A one-way ticket costs €1.10.

By taxi

Taxi service, run by the Co.Ta.Pi Pisa taxi cooperative, is available from the stand outside the arrivals hall. Minimum fare is €5.70, with an additional €2.30 surcharge for holidays and nights. A taxi ride to the city center should cost €8 or less.

Visit the official site of Galileo Galilei airport for more information.

Arriving by Train

Pisa Centrale station receives trains from many Italian cities, including Florence, Rome, Genoa and Lucca. Find information about train travel on the website of the Ferrovie dello Stato (Italian national rail service).

By bus

Several city bus lines stop just outside the train station. Take the LAM Rossa (Red LAM) for travel to the airport and the old city (to the west) and the LAM Verde (Green LAM) for the eastern half of the city.

Arriving by Bus

The main bus terminal is located to the north of the city, on Via Pietrasantina. Buses arrive mainly from central and southern Italy. The terminal is a 10-minute walk from the Piazza dei Miracoli in the old city.

Regional inter-city buses generally arrive in the Piazza Sant'Antonio, not far from the Centrale Station.
