A pretty three-star hotel located between St. Peter's Church and Dom Square, the Kolonna is an affordable and super-central pick.
The hotel’s 41 rooms are pleasant, and standardized: Twins, doubles or family rooms (with a single and double bed) are all outfitted with simple wooden furniture, yellow walls, a desk, an orange armchair, cable TV and telephone. Tiled baths are bright and clean, with nice walk-in showers, big sinks, hairdryers and sufficient storage space.
The Kolonna's modern lobby has a yellow and purple color scheme replete with a checkered tile floor. The property, which opened in 2005, has the cool efficiency of a chain hotel, which makes sense considering it's one of five hotels run by the Kolonna Hotel group. This gives it a predictable and pleasant, if slightly sterile, feeling.
The hotel is also located directly across the street from the Lido cafeteria, which serves delicious home-cooked Latvian cuisine at a budget-friendly price. Also to note, breakfast is included in the room rate and is served in the hotel's vaulted basement breakfast room. Wi-Fi is free.

Old Town, Riga, Latvia
About the Kolonna Hotel Riga neighborhood
The "Old Town" is the medieval heart of Riga, a maze of winding cobblestone streets, stony churches and public squares. Most of the city’s main tourist sights are located here, including the Cathedral, St. Peter’s Church, House of the Blackheads, Parliament and the Castle. The Old Town is unsurprisingly also home to a wide range of restaurants, bars, shops and hotels.
