The Royal Old City Boutique Hotel, a charming three-star property located along a quiet side street in the center of Old Town, completely won us over with its 66 stylish rooms.

Rooms are comfortable, with sound-proofed windows, television, minibar and air conditioning. They're attractively furnished with antique beds, side tables and desks. Paintings and prints hang on the walls, and some rooms have pretty exposed stone work. All of the tiled bathrooms have modern sinks, and some are equipped with bathtubs (ask ahead).

The Royal Old City's playful décor becomes apparent as soon as you step into the reception. In one room, they've thrown together pieces that span about 500 years: a Baroque table, Renaissance-style painting, 19th-century clock, Art Nouveau stained-glass windows and a modern leather sofa. And yes, it somehow works!

Breakfast is included. The entire hotel is non-smoking. Internet—wired in some rooms and wireless in others (ask ahead)—is free of charge.

Note: There are some rooms on the ground floor that could be noisy at night. We’d ask for a room upstairs when reserving.
