The 1 Step From Saint Peter is a bed and breakfast/hostel with a rather optimistic name (it’s actually about a 15-minute walk to St. Peter’s Basilica). It does, however, enjoy some spectacular views of the dome from a lovely rooftop terrace.
The B&B is situated on the second floor of a 1920s-era apartment building. It’s got high ceilings, polished original floors, enormous light-filled windows, cream-colored woodwork—and rates that are quite reasonable for the neighborhood.
The eight rooms at the 1 Step for Saint Peter vary in size, from cozy singles to spacious doubles. Décor includes mirrored armoires, sky-blue bed coverings and tiled floors. All rooms have air conditioning, soundproof windows and TV. One room has a balcony (ask ahead).
Bathrooms are shared but very clean.
The 1 Step from St. Peter’s rooftop terrace boasts sun loungers, plants and a shaded area. Sadly, access is only allowed when owner Frederico is around, but during the summer you can expect an invite to share a drink and an aperitivo.
The breakfast area has a checkerboard floor, white sofa, computer terminal with free Internet access and a big-screen TV. Guests can also use the communal fridge in the kitchen and are given their own key (with a €50 deposit) to come and go as they please.
Breakfast is included in the room rate and Wi-Fi is free throughout. The 1 Step from Saint Peter also has laundry facilities. Note that you must advise Frederico of your arrival time and cell number so he can ensure you gain entry into the hotel (there is no reception area).

About the 1 Step From Saint Peter neighborhood
Located across the Tiber River, the Vatican and Prati are unquestionably majestic. St. Peter's Basilica is the focal point of the Vatican, which is the world's only neighborhood that's also a nation. The Vatican and Prati area is pleasant, with tree-lined streets, wide boulevards, and newer buildings. This is a great area to stay, as hotel rates are often lower, hotel rooms bigger, and nights quieter than in other Roman neighborhoods. The area is two stops on the subway from Piazza di Spagna.
