Don't be put off by the shabby entrance to this ultra budget, family-run hotel. Situated on a quiet corner of Prati, the Hotel Davos is minutes from the Lepanto metro stop, close to numerous bus routes, and a half-hour walk from the historic center. Whether you're in town for a quick one-night stay or an extended Vatican visit, you can't beat double rooms with bath for €70-75 a night.
It's pretty clear that just about everyone in the family had their say in the Davos's décor. High ceilings, ornate woodwork, and rosy and pale-green walls meet tacky red iron bed frames and vibrant plaid bed coverings, which make for a laughable clatter of color. There's plenty of space for your suitcase to explode on what might have been little Tony's old bedroom set or Aunt Annabella's Paris café chair collection.
The bathrooms are stark yet passable, and you'll likely forgive the dim lighting when you get a look at the cutesy cartoon shower curtains.
