The Independence Square Inn B&B is a well-scrubbed but basic find less than a 10-minute walk from Termini. Rooms are very clean with cute furniture: unfinished pine nightstands and pretty bed frames.
With only ten rooms in total, Independence Square doesn't offer standard hotel services. There's no elevator and no telephones in the rooms. But this light and airy place is pleasant, and all of the rooms have solid wood double doors to keep you from noticing your fellow guests. Reception hours are limited; guests get a key to the building.
Gianluca, the friendly owner, speaks passable English. But his hired hand Pino (and his unmistakable Boston accent) will help you through any language barriers. The owner's family runs the restaurant downstairs. Guests get a 10 percent discount.
