The same family has run the Hotel Italia for more than 25 years. With an enviable location—just behind Via Nazionale and a short walk from Monti—and simple but immaculate guest rooms, this two-star cheapo-friendly establishment is a solid pick.
The Hotel Italia’s 23 rooms are rather small, with plain walls and a tendency toward heavy patterns when it comes to the bedspreads. Some newer rooms are located on the upper floor and in a building across the street. All rooms provide free Wi-Fi, a TV and a private bathroom with hair dryer. Note that air conditioning costs extra.
The Hotel Italia is well-connected to Rome’s historic center, which is a 15-minute walk or a short bus ride away. Termini Station is a similar distance from the hotel.
A generous breakfast of eggs, three types of bread and cake is included and served in the large, bright breakfast room. In addition to free Internet access throughout the hotel, there is a communal laptop at the reception.
