The Altstadt's Hotel am Dom offers 14 rooms in a well-preserved 14th-century house. We found this place simply divine: it's full of antiques and the owner is super friendly. Hallways are marked by winding stone steps, wood-beamed ceilings, and the occasional stained glass window.
Am Dom's rooms, defined by medieval architecture, are filled with traditional wooden handicrafts, small oil paintings, upholstered Victorian furniture, and a few retro ornaments, such as frilly lampshades. Ceilings are covered with bewitching, painted floral designs. Though, there are one or two less interesting rooms with country-style blond-pine furniture.
Though am Dom's style may seem hodgepodge, nothing feels fake or pretentious: the hallways' sconces are for real candles, not electric ones, and there's no embarrassing attempts at "luxury".
All rooms have abnormally large bathrooms with hypnotically colorful tiling. However, only three rooms have televisions.
