You'll be paying dearly for the regal and charming rooms overlooking Linzergasse at Hotel Amadeus. This Right Bank hotel—a true splurge—is best-suited for travelers who won't settle for anything less than good-looking rooms on one of Salzburg's liveliest pedestrian-only streets.
(That said, try to stay here during the off-season, when it's possible to get a single room for as low as €44.)
The easy elegance of Amadeus' rooms lies within their furnishings and well-tempered color palettes. Black wrought-iron canopy beds draped with white curtains pop against solid-colored walls; antique blonde wood furniture and glass coffee tables are simple and attractive. All rooms have en suite bathrooms and satellite TV. Larger apartment spaces are also available.
As indicated by the painted mural on the building's façade, Amadeus was a bathhouse during the 16th century. The original vaulted ceilings have been preserved in the lobby.
