What a location! Hotel Goldene Krone is a family-owned, 15th-century hotel on lovely pedestrian-only Linzergasse. This bustling street—packed with cute cafes and shops—is a huge part of the attraction. But it's not just the sweet environs that draw us to this charmer: the modern take on Austrian 'country' style and a great garden patio at the foot of Kapuzinerberg make it a standout.
Although it has been renovated, the hotel still has vaulted ceilings in the lobby. Modern details, such as slick lighting and breezy fixtures, contrast nicely with the traditional, hand-painted wooden furniture. Back rooms have views over Goldene Krone's patio, a multi-tiered, ivy-covered space so inviting that it makes us wish it were always spring! All rooms have cable TV and most have large tiled bathrooms with tubs.
Goldene Krone is a great choice for families (children's beds are available) and for exploring Salzburg by foot. The friendly owner, a licensed tour guide, offers customized tours for €10 a person.
