What a location! The 24-room Hotel Goldene Krone is a family-owned, 15th-century hotel on lovely pedestrian-only Linzergasse. This bustling street—packed with cute cafes and shops—is a huge part of the attraction (although the parking lot is a bit of a hike). But it's not just the sweet environs that draw us to this charmer: The modern take on Austrian "country" style and a great garden patio at the foot of Kapuzinerberg make it a standout.
Although it has been renovated, the three-star hotel still has vaulted ceilings in the lobby. Modern details, such as slick lighting, contrast nicely with the traditional, hand-painted wooden furniture.
Back rooms have views over Goldene Krone's patio, a multi-tiered, ivy-covered space so inviting that it makes us wish it were always spring! All rooms have cable TV and most have large tiled bathrooms with tubs.
The Goldene Krone is a great choice for families (children's beds are available) and for exploring Salzburg by foot. The friendly owner, a licensed tour guide, offers customized tours for €10 a person.
Breakfast is included in the nightly rate.

About the Hotel Goldene Krone neighborhood
The compact and cute Right Bank boasts many popular attractions, including Mirabellplatz and the Mirabellgarten, as well as the Mozart-Wohnhaus (not to be confused with the Altstadt’s Geburtshaus). The Right Bank is a little less frenetic than the Altstadt across the river, but not by much.
