All things cutesy and cozy are nowhere in sight at Hotel Jedermann, which provides a refreshing break from Salzburgās overpowering gemütlichkeit (a traditional Austrian sense of hospitality).
A former kindergarten, Jedermann keeps fresh with bright colors, leather furniture, contemporary Viennese photography, and scenes from operetta Der Jedermann hanging above the breakfast buffet.
The hotel's appealingly tacky atmosphere manages to sneak into every aspect of the décor. Ferrucio Busoni's famous Mozart quotation is frosted onto a gold-framed mirror; employees wear shirts emblazoned with the hotel's neon-orange logo; gaudily-framed Kaiser portraits hang in the lounge; and the image of a sassy girl warning you not to smoke is posted on the doors of all 30 rooms.
Rooms themselves are very geometric and modern, with cube-shaped leather furniture—much of it bright, bright yellow—and fake wood paneling. A few have kiln fireplaces, minibars, or balconies.
The bathroom layouts, though interesting, are not always conducive to privacy. Some showers have frosted panes that faced directly into the room! |
