All things cutesy and cozy are nowhere in sight at the Hotel Jedermann. Instead, the hotel provides a refreshing break from Salzburg’s overpowering Gemütlichkeit (a traditional Austrian sense of hospitality) while offering interesting rooms at reasonable rates.

A former kindergarten, Jedermann keeps the décor fresh with bright colors, leather furniture, contemporary Viennese photography, and scenes from operetta Der Jedermann hanging above the breakfast buffet.

The hotel's appealingly tacky atmosphere manages to sneak into every aspect of the décor. Employees wear shirts emblazoned with the hotel's neon-orange logo; Kaiser portraits hang in the lounge; and the image of a sassy girl warning you not to smoke is posted on the doors of all 30 rooms.

The rooms themselves are very geometric and modern, with cube-shaped leather furniture—much of it bright, bright yellow—and fake wood paneling. A few have a kiln fireplace, minibar or balcony.

The bathroom layouts, though interesting, are not always conducive to privacy. Some showers have frosted panes that face directly into the room!
