Markus Sittikus is a member of the Flair chain, which means that all the usual four-star amenities are present. But what makes this hotel, located in Schallmoos, feel very much unlike a chain hotel is its kitsch: all 39 rooms have hand-painted murals, and a few even have themes.
"Mozart" and "The Sound of Music," along with other themes, are played out through gaudy, cheery décor. In addition to colorful furnishings, you can expect bowls of wax fruit and fake flowers on the tables and desks.
Beds are uniformly doughy, with folded fortune cookie-shaped pillows. All bathrooms are en suite and most have tubs. Rooms have a good-sized satellite TV.
Sittikus is in southwestern Schallmoos, very close to the lively Right Bank area. If you're looking for a comfortable service-oriented hotel that's neither too fancy nor too plain or commercial, this is your best bet. The hotel offers an elevator (!), free bike rentals, and a backyard garden that's open in the spring.

About the Flair Markus Sittikus neighborhood
The bulk of Cheapo-friendly properties lie in Schallmoos, an expansive neighborhood that stretches north from Franz-Josef-Strasse and east from the train tracks. Schallmoos is a residential area, with stately townhouse apartments in the south fading into low buildings and gas stations closer to the Autobahn.
Swanky southern Schallmoos is within walking distance of all things Altstadt. Although northern Schallmoos lacks the rich beauty of the Altstadt and Right Bank, the area north of the Kapuzinerberg has a unique appeal, full of melancholy and atmosphere. Small, graffiti-riddled parks and monuments and a view of Kapuzinerberg's rock face are some of the highlights. Because the A1 feeds right into Schallmoos, it's a good option for those with cars. Many Schallmoos hotels have free parking, too.
