We called this place the Grandpa hotel because we only dealt with old-timers when we visited. Happily, those present at Hotel Londres were as sweet as our own Grandpas.
Hotel Londres is a safe option for people who don't play hard at night. Hotel staff pride themselves on remembering faces and making sure that no one who is not a guest enters. Tranquila (that is, peaceful) seems to be the right word to describe this airy, three-story accommodation compared with the tourist-trodden hotels in the saturated Santa Cruz neighborhood.
The hotel is situated in the area known as El Arenal, south of the Cathedral and about a 15-minute pleasant walk past cafés and restaurants near El Museo de Bellas Artes (Museum of Fine Arts) and five to ten minutes en route to the Plaza de Toros. The river is a short walk to the south. If you're hopping the bus, it's one of the closest hotels to the Nueva Estación (New Station) that we recommend.
The hotel keeps up with the times by frequently refurbishing and renovating (there are new bathrooms, as well as new furniture) and a fruity peach paint job. The two downstairs rooms are nice with high ceilings but they're near the reception and we fear noise. Request an upstairs room.
