Situated in a three-story building on a small street between the cathedral and Plaza Nueva, the one-star Hotel Maestranza offers 18 tastefully decorated rooms at attractive rates. When we visited, the marble floors had just been mopped the the hotel was getting a fresh coat of paint (Antonio, our friendly tour guide, remarkably apologized for both “inconveniences.” Those are points in our book, Tony!)
A grand tiled staircase leads up to the guestrooms, which are decorated with swirly metal headboards and striped bedspreads. Each room is equipped with air conditioning, soundproof windows, a flat-screen TV, safe and radio. Some rooms have small balconies, while others have windows out to the adjacent alley.
Private bathrooms are equipped with shower/tub combos and sleek, black granite sinks. The marble walls and floors shine.
The hotel offers a vending machine and self-service shoe shine machine. Free Wi-Fi is available throughout.

About the Hotel Maestranza neighborhood
Centro is, not surprisingly, Seville's hub, anchored by Plazas San Francisco and Nueva and filled with shopping streets, churches, museums, restaurants, cafés. For visitors who must be at the center of the action, this is the place to be. Note, though, that because it's so in demand, it's also not cheap. Other hallmarks: loud cathedral bells, an absence of Internet cafés, and the obligatory Starbucks.
