Yes, the lively Sevilla Inn Backpackers has a youth hostel vibe. It also has a great location (just up the street from the cathedral) and bargain double rooms with fab views. When we stayed at this pleasant establishment, we awoke every morning to the bells of Santa Cruz Church—and the sound of savings.

Most of the Sevilla Inn’s double rooms are located on the hotel’s third and sunniest floor. They are simply furnished with light wooden bed frames, colorful nightstands and puffy bedspreads. The two doubles located next door to the main house tend to be quieter but lack views. Dorms are outfitted with lockers and four, six or eight metal-framed bunk beds. All rooms are outfitted with lockers and free Wi-Fi.

All rooms share bathroom facilities, and public hand towels are replaced twice daily. (Note that there is an additional charge to rent towels.)

We loved the Sevilla Inn for its cleanliness, cheap rates (priced per person, even for doubles) and fun staff. Plus, it offers some fun extras, including a well-equipped guest kitchen replete with a “community shelf” of free food (during our visit, we spotted cheap vodka, cherries and collection of Persian poetry). A large rooftop patio looks out at La Giralda and the orange-tree-lined Calle Mateos Gago, hopping with tapas bars and restaurants.

The hostel also offers bike rentals, and its upbeat team members host fun and inexpensive events, including flamenco shows, rooftop dinners and tapas tours.

The first-floor shared computers are free for guest use, and a light continental breakfast is included. There is also a vending machine stocked with water, beer and cell phones (you read that correctly). Note that the stairs are steep and there is no elevator.
