Valencia Intro - Valencia, Spain

Valencia is located in southeast Spain on the Mediterranean coast. Founded by the Romans in the 2nd Century AD, Valencia was an important trading city in Moorish Spain before being reconquered by the Catholics in the early 1200s.

A terrible flooding of the Rio Turia in 1957 that devastated the city led to the redirection of the river to the south of the city center, with the old river bed becoming a garden with pedestrian walkways. The annual Las Fallas festival in March is celebrated with the burning of small figurines, fireworks displays, and bullfights.
