Alloggi Gerotto Calderan

The bare-bones Alloggi Gerotto Calderan is situated on the busy Campo San Geremia, within easy walking distance of the train station. It’s a bargain-rate guesthouse with basic décor, few amenities and a variety of room types.

Rooms

The entryway and hallways struck us as a bit tattered, although the Calderan’s 30 simple rooms were in much better shape, with air conditioning and simple white walls. Shiny porcelain floors and a few Venetian touches add a little class where you'd least expect it.

In addition to singles, doubles, triples and quads, the Calderan offers six-bed dorms (for ages 35 and under) with very few frills. There are no lockers available in the dorm rooms, although there is a safe at reception. It should also be noted that there is only one key per dorm room, which can make it awkward for guests arriving or returning at odd hours. Bed linens are included for all guest rooms (dorms and privates).

The few scattered balconies are original to the building and offer great views, although any of the 17 rooms facing the Campo will have views—and be a bit noisy at night. Quieter rooms face a garden or courtyard.

Bathrooms

Dorms at the Alloggi Gerotto Calderan share bathrooms, and some double rooms do as well. The rest of the doubles, and all other room types, feature private bathrooms. Either way, bathrooms are straightforward affairs with showers. Towels are included for all private rooms, but not for dorm guests.

Hotel

The same management runs the Hotel San Geremia next door, which serves as the reception for both hotels.

Wi-Fi is free throughout (but can be patchy). The Calderan does have some quirks of note. First, the hotel doesn’t have an elevator, and some rooms are located on the fourth floor. There is also a 1 a.m. curfew, and the hotel accepts cash only and requires payment in full upon arrival. Breakfast is not available.
