Hotel Owner Riccardo grew up in the fabulous palazzo which is now home to the Bed and Breakfast Corte Campana. This may explain why this splurge-worthy B&B, located a few corners away from Santa Maria Formosa, feels so much like a real home.
Quick read
Pros: Ample guest rooms. Homey (and luxe) charm.
Cons: Pricey. No elevator.
Rooms
The Campana's three rooms are huge. Decked out in glorious antiques, they flaunt a luxurious, stately feel.
In keeping with the feels-like-home vibe, rooms are sweetly named “Parent’s Room,” “Sister’s Room,” and “Brother’s Room,” but the only real difference (aside from the unique décor in each room) is that the Parent’s Room offers a queen-sized bed, Sister’s Room a double, and Brother’s Room two twins.
Otherwise, each room offers air conditioning, satellite TV and a courtyard view.
Bathrooms
The bathrooms aren't super-mod, but they do gleam—Riccardo is an admitted perfectionist. All three rooms have private bathrooms, but the bathroom corresponding to the Sister’s Room is located down the hall, while the other two rooms have en suite baths.
During high season Riccardo also rents out two apartments. Located just across the road, these have clean, modern interiors.
Hotel
The building is over 600 years old—and it shows (in a good way). The living room and breakfast space get great light and are super cozy. Books cover all otherwise unoccupied surfaces, most of which are antique, and everywhere you look there's something older than the United States of America. Funky posters and postcards from happy "house guests" mingle with ornate furniture, gilded mirrors and a breathtaking chandelier.
Breakfast is included in the room rate.
Value
The Bed and Breakfast Corte Campana is admittedly not a “super-Cheapo” spot. In fact, its starting rates are high for our Editor’s Picks in Venice. However, this is one of those gems that’s worthy of a splurge. And for the rustic comfort and opulent style, the rates are actually a decent value.
Reserving at the Corte Campana
As we point out above, the Corte Campana does not offer online booking. To reserve a room, you’ll have to contact the hotel directly by email or telephone (see below).
If you’d like a suggestion for an equally special property that does offer online booking, read our reviews of the sweet and family-run Casa Querini or the lovely Locanda SS. Giovanni e Paolo.

About the Bed and Breakfast Corte Campana neighborhood
The largest of the six "sestieri", Castello is divided into Castello and Castello Alto. Castello Alto borders San Marco and is home to innumerable cheap sleeps, as well as the Arsenale Naval Museum. The largely residential area doesn't boast much in the way of dining or nightlife, but its vicinity to San Marco and its overall convenient location makes Castello Alto a savvy alternative for budget-minded Cheapos.
