There's a history of hospitality at this prime Castello Alto location. Founded by the Franciscans in 1346 as a home for abandoned children and single mothers, the folks at Casa per Ferie Santa Maria della Pieta' know darn well how to make you feel at home.
In 2000, the Casa per Ferie began to accommodate pilgrims for the jubilee year. They did such good business, they never shut down.
Housed in a three-palazzo complex and surrounded by lush greenery the structure where you'll sleep was built in the 16th century. Wide open corridors are bathed in sunlight and dotted with gorgeous antique furniture.
Rooms are large and outfitted with modern dorm-style furnishings in friendly red or blue themes. There are no phones or televisions, but space and sunlight abound. Common office-building-style bathrooms are huge, new and clean, and conveniently located across the hall from most rooms.
Breakfast is served in a bright sunny room upstairs. From this vantage point, you can take in a fabulous city panorama. The staff are friendly and professional, and the sounds of children playing in the garden add to the already warm and familial ambiance. It's a real Cheapo find. |
