We're in lust and it's totally physical! Hotel Al Ponte Mocenigo is simply to die for. It's got its very own bridge entrance (Ponte Mocenigo) and a courtyard teeming with columns, Roman sculptures, greenery, and scattered café tables.
The owner of the building (bless him) used to be an antiques dealer. He packed the 16th-century palazzo with extra touches both inside and out.
A red-and-white marble-tiled reception hall features wood-beamed ceilings, a marble-topped reception desk, and a darling bar (which stays open to soothe cabernet cravings until 10 p.m.).
Both Superior and Standard rooms are styled to Venetian perfection, complete with parquet floors, creamy painted or damask walls, and chunky, polished antique armoires. They're also bursting with gilding and brocade—surprise, surprise. Sparkling clean bathrooms are deliciously large and tiled with marble.
Legend holds that Count Alvise Mocenigo once used the place for romantic trysts (in pre-Doge days of course). |
