Boasting quite possibly the best location in the city, this sweet family-run hotel lies on the border of Cannareggio and San Marco, and minutes from the Rialto bridge. Maria Teresa and her husband Leonardo have raised the Bernardi-Semenzato like a child. And with 13th-century foundations and a early 19th-century expansion, that's a lot of tender loving care!
The entrance to this two-star hotel is cozy and cluttered. Rooms are done up in fabulous antiques, with parquet floors gilded mirrors, and exposed wood-beamed ceilings. Artful additions include Murano glass lamps and artwork by talented family friends. Mom and dad shelled out big bucks to update the bathrooms with hand-painted tile work. And this wasn't just for the en suite toilets, but also for shared facilities.
Repeat customers and a fair dose of word of mouth have prompted a brand new annex with canopy beds, ultra Venetian style, and gorgeous canal views. Naturally, the prices are higher too. |
