It was difficult to concentrate as we toured the Hotel Riva: gondolas drifted lazily by the lobby and we began to daydream. But the time we wasted was certainly worth it! Situated on the corner of two canals, the hotel couldn't be quainter: golden angels and gilded mirrors adorn the lobby and breakfast room, and marble and rich, dark woods vie for floor space and cover the walls.
Rooms are small but decked out in pretty-in-pink bedding, lacy curtains, wood-beamed ceilings, oriental carpets, and great artwork. The hotel owner is a doctor. He personally selected the framed treasures, some of which date back a few centuries.
Also some of the best canal views ever. Signora Iris showed me around, and when asked why there are no televisions in the rooms, she said that anyone who comes to Venice to watch TV may as well stay home. Agreed.
