Located a five-minute stroll from the Santa Lucia train station (hence the name), this 15-room hotel is modern, convenient and feels strangely like you’ve stepped into Florida. So long, Venetian décor!
Pros: Convenient to train station. Well located. Friendly staff. AC. Solid value.
Cons: Thin walls. Basic.
The friendly Emilia and her son Gian'angelo run the one-star hotel with care, and they keep it clean. Marble floors glimmer throughout the reception and corridors.
Rooms are simple and spacious, with sunny yellow bedspreads and plenty of natural light. Furnishings are run of the mill but perfectly fine. Notably, all rooms are air conditioned and equipped with a TV and telephone.
Despite being more than 40 years old, bathrooms and floor tiles are shiny and white. Ten rooms have private baths, while five cheaper rooms share facilities, although they each have their own sink.
The Hotel S. Lucia offers breakfast for an additional charge. In good weather, you can have breakfast or an afternoon refreshment in the lush garden, and the cozy breakfast nook takes its place during colder months.
Note that Wi-Fi has cost extra in the past. However, it was offered throughout 2014 for free as a “special.” We’ll see if this continues.
Reserving at the Hotel Santa Lucia
As we point out above, the S. Lucia does not offer online booking. To reserve a room, you’ll have to contact the hotel directly by email, Web or telephone (see below, under “Contact”). About the Hotel Santa Lucia neighborhood
Situated north and west of the train station, Cannaregio provides some of the city's cheapest sleeps and eats. It's the most navigable "sestiere" in the city and by far the most convenient area from which to explore Venice. Adjacent to the train station on one end and bordering San Marco at the Rialto Bridge on the other, here you’ll find the Jewish Ghetto and some of Venice’s finest palaces, among them the breathtaking Ca d’ Oro.
