Located on a stylish strip just off the Campo San Stefano and near the Accademia Bridge, the Locanda Art Deco blends the historical and the hip.

The Palazzo was constructed during the Belle Epoque, and features marble floor and a fanciful wrought-iron banister. While “art deco” applies to several of the furnishings and thoughtful touches, rooms are airy and romantic, with silky, sheer curtains and cream walls. Cool-colored bathrooms are clean and fabulously stylish.

The Art Deco offers a few high-tech extras. All rooms are equipped with free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs and computers—just ask for a keyboard upon check-in. The reception also lends out DVDs of Venice-related films to help you get in the mood.

We spent three nights in a romantic, “tree-house”-inspired room at the tip-top of the hotel, with skylights and sloped ceilings. While it’s not for everyone (there’s a climb, for starters), we were charmed.

The amicable staff "feels like a family" and runs four hotels, all of which are quite popular. Ask them anything about the city, including restaurant recommendations. Your waistline won't thank you, but your taste buds will be grateful.
