The cozy Locanda Ca' Foscari is run by the Mhana family, a fact you'll realize as soon as adorable baby Giovanni has a rummage through your purse or trips you with one of his toy trucks. Those on the lookout for an authentic, family feel will be charmed from the moment they set foot in the living room, which also serves as reception!
This 11-room hotel is super convenient, located at the border of Dorsoduro and Santa Croce—an easy 10-minute walk from the station, and not far from the Accademia or Campo dei Frari.
The decorating scheme is quite homey and down to earth. Antiques share floor space with simpler, standard furniture in varying shades of wood. Walls are either damask or brightly painted, and adorned with a mixed bag of artwork. Rooms are pretty spacious, with slightly aging floral bedspreads and a lived-in, but well kept feeling.
Bathrooms are tiny and decorated in gray and white—a bit shabby, but regularly scrubbed down. Rooms without a private bath all have sinks, so at least you can wash your face and brush your teeth en suite.
