Intro to Verona

Anyone who paid attention during high school English class will remember Verona is the setting of Shakespeare's classic love story "Romeo and Juliet," a fact which the locals have seized on with "monuments" to the play's heroine.

The city is found in northeastern Italy, in the same region as Venice. Verona's history extends back to the Romans, who left many impressive buildings and artifacts that locals claim are second only to those in Rome. Verona also boasts medieval churches, Renaissance palaces and fortifications from the period of Austrian rule.
