Nestled on a quiet side street that's just steps from St. Stephen's Cathedral, the three-star Hotel Austria offers a rare combination of good value, a wealth of amenities, and an attentive staff.
A grand spiral staircase leads up to 46 quiet, airy rooms awash in Viennese yellows and reds. Rooms with a shared bathroom are an exceptional deal for the neighborhood. Bathtubs have been shoehorned into some bathrooms, despite their cramped nature.
Far from spartan, some rooms are outfitted with flat-screen televisions, and all offer complimentary wireless Internet access. A bike rental service for guests, at just €12 a day, is another nice touch.

About the Austria neighborhood
The beautiful Innere Stadt is the Vienna of tourist brochures and chocolate boxes. The narrow, twisting cobblestone streets and fin-de-siècle façades, the expensive shops on the pedestrian-only Graben, and the alluring Stephansdom are all here. Happily, the Innere Stadt is big enough to boast back streets that appear quiet and undiscovered, thus offering a respite from the frenzy.
