On a narrow street in the heart of the Josefstadt, the Hotel Graf Stadion is an authentic Biedermeier-style hotel, with the historic monument registration to prove it. Graf Stadion has been in business since since 1897. Location a stone's throw from the Rathaus and the U-Bahn, Graf Stadion is ten minutes from the Innere Stadt. That and its great amenities make this three-star hotel a find.
Despite the history surrounding the property, the Graf Stadion doesn't feel cramped or weighed down by the years. In fact, because the hotel doesn't hit guests over the head with those details, they're hardly noticeable beyond the gorgeous circa 1930 elevator. The rooms are on the understated side, with only the occasional floral print providing an anachronistic feeling.
Doubles are considerably larger than the singles, though at a premium in cost. Street-side rooms are quiet, as the neighborhood could hardly be described as busy. Half the bathrooms have tubs, most with glorious black and white color schemes and a gleaming checkerboard tile floor. There's in-room Internet access but no wireless, plus cable television. Half of the rooms are nonsmoking.
The most charming quirk of all? The complimentary drinks at reception. We hope that this tradition makes a wider comeback. |
